Wow, I guess it has been a while. With Facebook and email I feel like I keep everyone updated on our family, but I think I would rather start using our blog more. I can share more pictures and stories at once this way!
One Sunday morning the boys were in a particularly cooperative mood and agreed to let me take some pics. Then I was amazed when they agreed to let me record them singing!!! I think I did a double take to see if it was really my children standing there so still. I was reassured when at the end of the recording Sam decides to "disappear"! When we were watching this clip to show Daddy, Sam proclaimed proudly, "The disappearing was my idea!!" Merry Christmas, and enjoy!

Eli hasn't been able to eat before radiation. Since yesterday was the last day of that, I made him his favorite breakfast: pancakes and bacon. I think he was a happy boy....check out the video and see for yourself! :)

<>Wow, I've been really bad this past year about keeping up with this blog. I'm guessing it has something to do with the two little boogers running around my house right now...that, and the fact that I'm teaching online classes. I'm sure the new design won't stay this way for long. I'm usually not a big fan of change but when it comes to being creative I don't seem to mind! I'm just glad I finally figured out some more interesting design/set up attributes of blogger. I haven't been very consistent keeping up with this blog since I started putting a lot of pics on Facebook. But from time to time I will post a few more.

Summer 2010

We spent July 4th at the Lake House on Oconee. Some of the pics are from that weekend. We did spend a week in Ft. Walton renovating my grandparents cottage on the bay but I neglected to take any pics except the two from the beach that I included here. I guess we were just too busy chasing the boys around to take any pics. These pics got all jumbled and out of order when I was uploading them so you'll have to figure out which are from the 4th at the lake, and which are just random pics at our house! :) Oh well, Enjoy!

Camping in June

Camping is so much more relaxing with friends and baby jail! We learned our lesson from our first camping trip of the year and decided to take our “baby corral” that we use around our Christmas tree. We went camping with the Glass family and they brought their “baby jail” too. It helped keep our sanity intact because Eli and Laney couldn’t wander off. Sam and Bradley had a blast and were great. They played with Batman, Buzz Lightyear, play dough, horse shoes, motorcycles, monster trucks, shovels/buckets, Lightning McQueen and all of the other toys that they brought.

This year we went to Unicoi State Park, near Helen, GA. We visited the town of Helen, played on the play ground, bought rock candy and chocolate, visited the Black Forest Bear Park and had a great time. We also hiked to Anna Ruby Falls one morning. There was also a creek in the campground that we played in several times. Sam, Joseph, Bradley and Bryan liked splashing everyone, Eli liked walking around throwing rocks and little Laney liked sitting in the middle and trying to eat the rocks!

All in all it was one of the best camping trips we’ve planned. Probably because the boys are getting a little more manageable! I think we’re planning another one soon so if you want to join us let me know….we are always looking for camping buddies!

Playing in the mud! It rained last Friday so the boys had a little bit of cabin fever. Their friends Logan and Dylan had stayed the day and when we went outside to say goodbye the boys saw this puddle. They were really good and waited until Mommy said that they could play in it. It was just too cute. This is why I don't buy expensive clothes: 1. because i want to let them play in the mud from time to time 2. because i don't want to freak out when they do. Boys will be boys!

First Camping Trip of 2010

Last week, Joseph pressure washed the camper and with it looking so purty we decided to take it out for the first camping trip of 2010. We only went once last year (probably due to our couple of trips down to FL and AL) but we definitely plan on going more this year. It's just so cheap (especially at the state parks) and it's not like you spend more on food cause you just take what you have at home with you!
Well, little did we know that by the end of the first day we were going to be ready to pack it all up and come home. Little bugger Eli drove us INSANE! See, last year we took him camping when he was 3 months old (our friends took their 1 mo. old on the same trip) and we joked that we were crazy for taking babies camping. I stand corrected, because taking a walking 13 mo. old is so much crazier! He just wandered around so someone had to constantly follow him. And of course keeping him inside the camper was not going to happen because as soon as Daddy and Big Bro Sam went outside he would pitch a fit!
We made it through because we just came to the conclusion that camping, for now, is no longer relaxing! Haha It was fun watching them explore, make friends, play with sticks, flowers, bugs, and eat dirt! Sam was GREAT! He’s pretty much potty trained so that made it a little easier. Plus he will listen to directions like “get out of the road” and “don’t put that in your mouth” and Eli doesn’t have a clue yet! The only downfall of the trip was that we couldn’t even start a fire until after Eli was in bed because he had no concept whatsoever that it would hurt him!
But we are making memories and we can’t wait until our next trip! Enjoy some of the pics. (I tried to find some that I haven’t already posted on Facebook!)

My baby is growing up too fast! He is pulling up on anything he can get his hands on. He loves chasing Sam in his walker and I think it won't be long before he is trying to walk on his own. He loves to watch everyone around him and he NEVER sits still!! He is definitely a go-getter right now. Here are some pics of him from birth to nine months. I've tried to keep up with taking his pic in the glider rocker, but you know how it goes with the second child! haha :)

Sam and Eli have both had their share of illness so far this winter. Eli was sick before Christmas and they both came down with RSV (a respiratory cold) along with Eli having an ear infection and Sam having a mild case of croup. Needless to say, New Years was pretty boring! We pretty much spent the entire week at home because the boys were sick and it was too cold to get out and do anything. We are ready to get back to normal. Here's to a happy and healthy new year!

I guess I thought it wouldn't be that difficult to take a simple Christmas card picture. And I'm sure it wouldn't have been had we paid a professional (no offense, Emily), but with funds tight this year we couldn't rationalize spending money on pictures over groceries and gas! SOOO, I thought you would find it funny to see a few of the MANY tries that it took to get a decent family picture of us. I will definitely keep all of the "mistakes" pictures because years from now it will be fun to look back and remember the year we gave Sam well over 20 M&M's just to get a picture where everyone was looking at the camera and smiling. Enjoy!

The boys can sometimes drive me crazy (like this past weekend), but the rest of the time they make up for it with their cuteness! Sam is SOOOOO talkative, he has the largest vocabulary! He tells me things in long sentences and can analyze and remember better than me sometimes! It's a good thing that Joseph and I are pretty smart cause he is going to give us a run for our money! I was giving Eli a bath (cause Sam likes to take showers now, so they don't take baths together anymore!!! I don't know of too many two year-olds that like showers) and I asked Sam to go tell Daddy "Get Mommy a towel". I thought that was a simple enough direction for him to follow. So he goes into the kitchen, tells Joseph to turn off the dust buster he was using and then says, "Daddy, Mommy said she needs a towel to dry off Eli!" Wow, we sure think he is smart!

Eli is trying to imitate his brother so he says "Bye", "Ba-ba" (bottle), "Dada" and "Momma" but it is so random I'm not sure if he is really naming things or just babbling. I think Eli will be like his brother in his physical development because if you offer Eli your fingers he pulls up and wants to walk!! Big Bro Sam walked at about 9 months so I'm guessing Eli might too! He already loves chasing Sam around the kitchen in his walker. Don't worry, I try not to compare them too much! Eli has definitely developed his own little personality and my goal is for him to feel like he can be himself and not just "Sam's little bro". Here are some pics of the boys horsing around! Sam grabbed one of my "silly" magazines from the living room. (I say "silly" because it was one of those celebrity gossip/snooping magazines that my sis and I get every once in a while to read about what they think certain celebrities might be doing and we really love the pics that are so incredibly grainy you know they were taken at least a mile away with a huge telephoto lens!!!haha) Anyways, this is where we found him, hiding in his room, reading about Matthew McConaughey and his son! hahaha We thought it was pretty funny!

Georgia (and some South Carolina) Mountains

We drove up to Demorest, Toccoa, and Clayton, GA and even into South Carolina last weekend to see the leaves. I love the colors of fall and always relish the opportunity to ride through the mountains gazing at the changing leaves and usually listening to bluegrass. The only difference this time is that we were listening to the Eagles, and had two talkative (and sometimes fussy) kids in the back. We visited my grandparents and went to lunch. Then Joseph, me, Sam, Eli, Emily, my Uncle Clay, Aunt Pam and cousin Lauren all headed out to take a walk and go apple picking. We first went to "hike" (I use that term loosely since it wasn't really a hike) to see the falls. The water is usually clear but because of the rain it looked a little muddy. Then we went over to the Bryce Apple Orchard and had a great time.

I love Fall. But I think I love the change of the seasons the best. I know people (like my Dad) who would rather live in one type of weather. In his case, Summer all the time! Like on an island in the Caribbean in shorts on the sand. But me, I love the change, especially the change here in GA. I would be happy in GA, north AL, TN, SC or NC and maybe even KY cause they all have about the same weather. A mild winter, with a possibility of snow, a cool fall with beautiful changing leaves, a wet spring with flowers and a hot summer great for swimming! Thank you God for putting me in the South! I am fortunate to love where I live and can appreciate God's miracles in nature. Enjoy the pics!

Pumpkin Patch

Went to the pumpkin patch yesterday. I needed a pumpkin for Sam's birthday party Saturday. Last year my sis, Jenny, carved Elmo for his b-day, and then I carved a Georgia "G" for our Church's trunk-or-treat. So this year, his b-day theme is Tractors. I'm going to attempt to carve something John Deere, we'll see what happens. Here are some pics from our pumpkin-scouting outing! We were the only ones there, but I think it was because it had rained all day and the smart ones stayed at home until everything dried out! Enjoy!

We are in Ft. Walton Beach, FL right now. Unfortunately it's rained off and on the entire week. Here are a few pics from the times the sun came out and we were able to get out and do stuff. My parents came over for a few days and Joseph's parents and aunt and uncle stayed in Navarre, FL. The beach pics are from the beach in front of their condo. The pics of the wharf/marina are from the restaurant Giuseppe's Wharf in Niceville, FL. We also visited the Air Force Armament Museum with my parents and I included pics from that, too. If we are able to get out and do anything else before we leave, I'll post some more pics! Enjoy :)

Eli is four and 1/2 months old! Who told him he could grow this fast? It sure wasn't me! He's doing a great job at sitting up in his bouncer and bumbo seat. He loves to lay on his tummy and pull his legs up under him so it won't be long until he's crawling! His favorite activites are playing in his walker and bouncer, but most of all watching Sam run around. We are convinced his first words will be "No, Sam!" haha He is so easy going that we take him everywhere. He is just one content and smiley little baby, especially when he can pull his legs up to suck on his toes!!! Here are some pics to show how much he's grown! :) Enjoy!

We think Sam is sweet and smart, so I thought I'd share a story about what he did this morning. While I was feeding Eli, he went and found his Curious George doll and proceeded to "take care" of it. He first put it in Eli's bumbo seat and handed it a toy and told it to play. Then he picked George up looked at his "bomum" (bottom) and said "diaper change". Then my sweet little almost 2 yr. old laid the monkey on the floor lifted up it's legs and pretended to change it's diaper. At this point I'm envisioning the future where Sam babysits Eli and I just lay on the couch eating chocolate! haha Sam quickly destroys my dreams by bodyslamming George as he's laying there on the floor!!! Oh well! At least he tried! Fortunately George survived and was later told to sit in Daddy's chair while Sam counted his toes. Unfortunately, although Sam can count to ten with help, when trying to count by himself it comes out something like "one, two, one, two, one!" He sure is entertaining to have around! Plus, he already likes to help unload the dishwasher and cook so my "couch" dreams may one day come true! But I'm not getting my hopes up! :)

Here are some random pics from the past few weeks. We visited my grandparents in Toccoa, GA last week and even though I took my camera I only got one pic of my grandfather reading to Sam. He was a radio announcer for years and had that booming voice so listening to him read a book was a treat. I'm glad that Sam got to experience that. I included a pic from our Stone Mountain trip of Sam and Bradley at the playground. I think they both had a great time. I'm sure Bradley is glad now that Sam is old enough to actually play with him. Last summer Sam was too busy learning how to walk!! My little baby, Eli is growing up way too fast! He loves to play in his jumper so I included some pics of him, too! Enjoy! :)

Summer Fun! (June 2009)

Here are some long awaited pics of what has been going on with us so far this summer! Sam has had fun playing with the sprinkler in the backyard and in his little pool at Meme and Pops' lake house...and Eli has enjoyed watching Sam! haha Sam has also decided that he likes to swim! I don't think I've ever seen a 20 mo. old take to swimming like this before! He is jumping off diving boards and everything! Go Sam! Eli is already trying his best to sit up. He sure enjoys his bouncy gym thingy. Enjoy!

We went to Ft. Walton to visit with my Mom, Dad, sis and their friends. We stayed at my Grandparent's place on the bay. I have a few pics that we took at the beach with our video camera (so they aren't the best quality). I'll post the rest of the pics in a collage/video in another post a little later. Sam didn't really care for the water (it was really rough that day) but he loved the sand. He "swam" in the sand and in almost every picture he is wallowing around and happy! Eli didn't care about the beach so he just slept in our beach tent the entire time. It was really windy so we flew kites and didn't stay too long!

Here are some pics of Sam from the last month. Sam turned 18 mo. old on April 15th. He is a very energetic and smart little boy. He has a huge vocabulary so he is talking nonstop now! Some of his favorite things right now are Elmo and Curious George cartoons, daddy's tractor (actually a lawnmower which he tells me 27 times a day that it is loud! haha), he also loves playing outside so we are very thankful for the warmer weather, and he is addicted to cookies, too! haha (thank goodness for 100 calorie packs...less fat and sugar!!) Snow Day!

On the first day of March this year we had a little bit of a phenomenon around here...SNOW!!! It probably snowed the most I've ever seen since living in Georgia. It reminded Joseph and I a little bit of our honeymoon in Lake Tahoe when it snowed there! Sam liked it, but needed a nap first so the pics I have of him are of a very tired and ornery little guy! He got to go out later that day and play (but I didn't get any pics then!) It was fun because my mom, sister Jenny, and her boyfriend Seth were up visiting for Jenny's spring break! So we all got to play in the snow together! We made a sad looking muddy snowman, using grapes for teeth. He even survived until later that week when he finally melted! Oddly enough, we are being reminded this week that we live in the South because it's just now a week later and as I type I've got the air conditioning going and I've got shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops on! haha Oh well, maybe I can make my cousins Amy and Mindy's kids a little jealous with our snow since I've been a little jealous looking at their blogs for the past two months wishing the weather was as nice up here in GA as it is down there in FL! :)

P.S. I know I put "Sweet Home Alabama" as the background music for the pictures even though we live in Georgia but I just couldn't help it! It did snow in Auburn, AL where Jenny and Seth's friends were!

Here are some other random pictures taken in December and some in January. We were able to meet up with my Uncle Jimmy, his wife Patricia, their Daughter and Son-in-law and their kids. We haven't seen them in years so it was good to catch up. The other pics are of Sam, of course! We moved him up to the next Sunday school class because he was still in the nursery at church. He will be one of those preschoolers that gets stuck in the lower class longer because his birthday is in Oct. We transitioned him to a backpack instead of his diaper bag so that's the pics that I have of that. The third pic is of him with a ornament box on his head in case you can't figure that one out! haha

Christmas Eve 2008

We started a new family tradition and had brunch at Emily's house on Christmas Eve morning. We had drawn names during Thanksgiving and exchanged ornaments after breakfast. Emily had everything decorated and we all had a great time. Sorry to my Mom...I got pics of everyone else with their ornament except you! And I was the one that drew your name, too!!

Thanksgiving and other random pics

We went to Chatom, AL to Honey and Papa's for Thanksgiving this year. Uncle Clay, Aunt Pam, cousin Lauren, Great-Granny and Great-Pawpaw Townsend also came. We visited Great-Granny Sasser at the nursing home there, too. The rest of the pics are just random stuff around our house and the last few pics are of our Christmas tree we put up a week ago! Sam is growing!

Sam is 13 months old now! He is practically running. His favorite toy right now is Daddy's old cell phone. He loves making pretend calls on it. His favorite place is still outside, so we have no problems putting on jackets or shoes because he knows where he's going to go once they're on!! We think he's a genius! hahaha He can say doggie, momma, daddy, nose, mouth, ears, eyes, mmmm for milk, cracker, cookie and he can point out all of those things as well. I don't know why we are encouraging him to learn new words, give it a few years and we will be praying for silence!!! He'll also raise his hands if anyone says, "Touchdown!" and he'll dance if he hears music. He is definitely a little show-off because we can't go anywhere without him talking, laughing or making faces at complete strangers. He loves the attention. Halloween and the Mountains

Unfortunately, I did not take pics at our church's Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat on Halloween night because Joseph, Emily and I were working a booth and then ran to our car to do trunk or treat. I did give in and decorate the car in Georgia colors, just because we have more GA stuff. I also did my best at carving a GA "G" pumpkin, mainly because a Gator is much more complicated to carve! haha Anyways, my usual 1,000 picture event ended up being one picture of the back of Sam because he didn't want to stand still. He was a cowboy that didn't want to stand still or wear his hat, so Pops wore it most of the night! haha Thanks to our friends Mark and Robin and Karen and Emory we have pics of Sam on that night.
The second half of the pics are our trip to Dahlonega and Helen up in the GA mountains. We wanted to get away for the day and see the leaves. Sam got a souvenier "flute" which he serenaded us with. We also met up with Aunt Pam, Uncle Clay and Great-Granny and Great-Pawpaw Townsend. Sam really enjoyed the swings and slide and of course Pawpaw's rolling walker/chair!

Sam - 1 year old!

These are some pics from the last few weeks. Sam had another ear infection and he was sad that he couldn't go outside because it was too cold. One afternoon, Mommy gave in and bundled him up to go outside. It was the first time he wore mittens and a hat so he was very interested in those. The first set of pics is a very happy boy getting to play outside. There's also pics of him playing with his birthday balloons, a big hit! Also pics of him playing with Daddy, Mommy and Logan. Also the day of the FL/GA game...always interesting in our household with Daddy being a Bulldog fan and Mommy a Gators fan! haha And last our visit to the pumpkin patch to get a pumpkin for our church's fall festival and trunk-or-treat. Sam's Birthday Party

Sat. Oct. 18th we had Sam's birthday party. We had an Elmo theme and lots of friends and family came. My parents and sister came up from AL and my uncle, aunt, cousin, and Sam's great-grandparents came from Toccoa, GA. Sam's other Great-grandmother's came as well as lots of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He seemed to enjoy the party, except for the part where he burnt his hand on the candle wax:( He opened all his presents and we all had a great time!

Sam's Birthday

On Sam's actual birthday we put a candle in a Chick-fil-A biscuit and let him blow it out, then he got to open one present, an Elmo phone. Meme and Pops came by that afternoon and brought a balloon and a present, a little pull-along puppy. He liked the balloon so much we let him take it to Wed. night church that night. He also got a birthday card in the mail from Aunt Elaine. When Honey and Papa and Aunt Jen showed up the next day they brought his car that they had painted for him. These are some pics from those two days.

I have to start by apologizing for taking a MONTH to post something new. I guess life caught up with us and I just haven't had the time. It could be those first trimester naps I've been taking when Sam's napping that's kept me from my usual computer time! haha Sam is almost 11 months old and I'm just now posting 10 month pics. Oh well! Here's the update: Sam now says, Dada, doggy, cookie, duck, but unfortunately they all come out sounding the same! haha He took his first three unaided steps at the Phillips Family reunion on July 27th (9 1/2 months) and has been getting much better every day. He LOVES going outside and stands at the door and cries when we come in! He LOVES petting the concrete GA Bulldog on our front porch. I guess he thinks it's our pet, poor baby! We are going camping next week so I'm sure I'll more pics to post then. I totally forgot to take a 10 month pic of him in the rocking chair, so I'll just have to catch up for his 11 month one! Until then enjoy the two montages I posted earlier today! :)

It was such a fun and busy weekend that I didn't take but a few pics. Fortunately, Hurricane Gustav didn't come in until Monday when we were leaving. I got a few pics of the water level rising. It didn't come up to the house, thankfully!

Aunt Elaine's Birthday

We went to a surprise birthday party for Joseph's aunt at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant in Atlanta. It was fun and Sam enjoyed seeing the family again. Last week we went to see Carson and Caleb (the sons of two of my teacher friends). Carson is about 9 hours older than Sam! We played at Carson's house and went swimming in his pool. The last few pics are of Logan and Sam. Logan is staying with us during the school year while his mommy teaches.

Nine Months Old!!

Sam is now 9 month old! He can crawl very well and is trying to walk. He can pull up on things to stand and LOVES for people to hold his hands so he can walk around. It tires Mommy out so that's what grandparents and aunts are for!!! haha He is eating a lot of table food now. He likes Cheerios, cereal puffs, and anything else he can get in his mouth! The doctor says he is a little small for his age but we're thinking he'll catch up in the next few months. We had a bad bout of virus/teething/fever earlier this week but we are back to all smiles now! One month old

Camping in Hiawassee, GA

Joseph, Sam and I went camping with our friends Mandy, Brian and their son Bradley along with their Sunday School class and their families. Sam and Bradley were the only boys but they loved it. Sam was the youngest so he had lots of baby-sitters and I loved it!! :) It rained off and on a couple of days but it wasn't bad. Sam enjoyed the dirt and the streams most of all. There are several pics of him on a tarp(because the ground was wet and we were running out of changes of clothes!!) playing with sticks, rocks and dirt....you know, boy stuff!! The campground was really nice. The kids brought their bikes. Even the "big kids" (the Dads) brought their's too! There are a couple of pics of Bradley learning to ride. There was also a putt-putt course and a pool. We had a great time and look forward to next year!

Our trip to Alabama and Florida

Sam and I went to visit my mom while Joseph was at camp/mission trip with our youth group and my Dad, Emily and Jenny were at camp with their youth group. We stayed in Chatom (AL) for a few days and also visited my Grandparents, Aunt, Uncle and my cousin Lauren in Ft. Walton Beach, FL for a few days that week. Sam got to go swimming for the very first time at the same place I went swimming for the first time (I was 6 weeks old!) at my Grandparents cottage on Garnier's Bayou. Sam and I actually rode Amtrak (train) from Atlanta,GA to Meridian,MS and then back. It was cheaper than buying gas and driving!!! Sam really enjoyed the train ride. He was very social and made lots of friends. People came by our seat just to say "Bye" to Sam when we were getting close to Meridian on the way down. On the way back he played with a couple and another family with kids while I ate lunch! haha He's such a charmer! Anyways, this is a compilation of some pictures that I took that week! :)

Stone Mountain Park Camping Trip 6-6-08

We went camping at Stone Mountain Park this past weekend. We were supposed to go with another couple but their little boy broke his arm :( so we're going to wait and go with them later this summer hopefully. Anyways, we didn't camp but two days because it was really hot! I didn't take any pictures of the train ride, the Duck ride, or the mountain because I left the camera at the campsite! Oops! These are pics of the Antebellum Plantation and farmyard that I did remember to take the camera to. We'll have more pics to show when we go back later this year. Enjoy!

Growing up

Sam is getting bigger everyday! He is desperately trying to crawl. Once he does it will be a non-stop chase around the house for me! He really enjoys other people, especially kids. Joseph and I joke that he would have made a better second child because he is content watching other kids play but gets bored and cranky at home with just me! He is finally growing more hair and his newest trick is to wave bye-bye!

The following posts are pics from our family camping trip to St. George Island in Florida. Sam got to see the gulf for the first time. He didnt' really like the waves but he enjoyed splashing in a tide pool. He was really good on our camping trip. We weren't sure how he would do being away from home for 7 days but he was a trooper!! Mom, Dad, Em and Jen went with us and we all had a great time. We also visited the Gulf Marine Specimen Lab, which is kind of a backwoods aquarium so to speak. The first room consists of a bunch of "Touch tanks" in which you can handle all the "creatures" in them. Then they have a bunch of open waist-high tanks that say "no touching" because they have sea turtles, fish, sharks, sting rays, crabs, lobsters, etc. I wouldn't recommend going if you have a kid who doesn't listen when you say "don't touch"! haha Anyways, we had a blast and are ready to go camping again!!! Enjoy!

Sam and I went to a baby shower for a fellow teacher at Mt. Carmel and he got to see some other babies there. The one in the middle, Carson, was born about 10 hours before Sam. The shower was for a teacher who is due on March 17th, St. Patrick's Day!!
