Make A Wish Trip Day 5

Day 5: Our last day!
We decided to head down to San Diego and visit the Zoo.  We asked Eli what he wanted to see the most (Legoland, aquarium, zoo, etc.) and this is what he chose!
Of course, we had to stop by an In-N-Out burger!

Thought it was cool that they had verse references on all of their paper products!
The boys were not in a "cheeseburger" mood, so luckily there was a Taco Bell next door!

We were really intrigued by all of the cool landscaping and various strange plants. (Of course, they are only strange to us....I'm sure Californians find them mundane! haha)

First animal...orangutan

Sam goofing around!

The hippo exhibit was cool because not only could you see them from above the water, they also had one side of the tank that you could see underwater.  This one must have been giving us the "silent treatment" because he/she only showed us her backside until he/she swam away.

Does EVERY zoo have a stinky flamingo exhibit??? I mean seriously! haha
I concluded that they always put the stinky flamingos at the entrance to give your nose a proper shock so the rest of the exhibits aren't that bad!

Giant pelican!! Seriously, this pic does not do justice....I was a bit scared! haha

The polar bear exhibit was excellent!  These were lifesize replicas and a little intimidating!

They had a "fridge" exhibit with fake food in it showing how much a human eats vs. a polar bear!

I'm not quite sure why he was eating the grass, but he did the entire time we were there!

Huge "books" to look at in the exhibit!

and we HAD to wait in line to sit in the arctic helicopter

our tickets included admission to the sky buckets!  From this height we saw the line for the Panda exhibit and decided that we could see Pandas in Atlanta! haha

The boys loved this little fox and kept calling him a Chihuahua

The petting zoo area....they have an area chained off for the animals to rest (people can't go past the chains) and like very smart animals, they all stayed behind the chains.  Sam finally convinced a little one to come visit him for a few minutes! haha (I'd hide from sticky preschoolers, too!)

For those bug enthusiasts.....haha

Our tickets also included a double decker bus tour

The boys loved it!

It allowed us to see some of the sections of the zoo that we knew we wouldn't make it to due to time constraints.

The boys LOVED the snake, reptile, amphibians exhibit. We literally stopped at every..single....cage/tank! haha

AND does every Zoo have a wandering Peacock???
Is this in some "zoo handbook" or something?? haha

Leaving....we stayed until the doors closed (we didn't get there until after lunch because the parking lot was SOOOOO crazy.  It took us almost two hours to find parking.....seriously.....Finally, a family was leaving the zoo and couldn't find their car.  After the third time passing them down an isle while they wandered around, we stopped and asked if we could help.  The guy said, "I just now saw our car, but we'll wait until you get over to it before we walk over there"  There were literally people in cars following (aka stalking) people walking until they found their car so they could get their spot.  It was soooo kind of this family to wait and once we got behind where their car was parked they walked over and hopped in.  There is a good chance we would have skipped the zoo all together if it wasn't for them!)

Joseph wanted to try Pacific Coast fish tacos so we found a little joint that was featured on a fav . show of ours "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives".  The tacos were very fresh and good!

We arrived back late and packed to head out the next day to LAX.....I'll write about our little adventure home in the next post!
Enjoy!
